The Jewett brace is a three-point pressure system, which allows extension of the spine, but prevents flexion or bending. It consists of metal frame anteriorly, which is adjustable, with padding in the sternal, suprapubic and mid-back areas.
The brace is worn anteriorly (front of the body) and offers a three point pressure system.

WEARING PROTOCOL
Your physician will give specific orders for wearing protocol, but normally, the brace is used when you are up and ambulating.
DON AND DOFF
§ The brace can be applied either standing or lying in bed. Your orthotist will give specific recommendations.
§ Place the brace against your chest with the upper pad about 1 ½ inches below the base of the neck. Wrap the back pad around the back so the pad and cloth strap are about midway down your back.
§ The don and doff method will be determined by the design closure of your brace. Some designs offer a ratchet type closure while others offer Velcro closure systems.
§ The brace needs to be tight enough so it does not slip up or down more than two inches either way.
CARE
Clean with mild soap and water
SUGGESTIONS
