Knee Immobilizer

Knee immobilizer
The knee immobilizer is used for a variety of knee conditions.  Normally, the brace is constructed of a soft-foam material which can be trimmed and easily adjusted.  There are normally malleable stays medially, laterally and often posteriorly for additional support.

The brace is designed to keep the knee in an extended position when the patient is standing or ambulating.

ASSOCIATED CONDITIONS

Meniscus Injury

WEARING PROTOCOL

Your physician will give specific instructions as to wearing protocol.  Normally, the knee immobilizer is worn while up and ambulating to keep the knee in a fully extended position.

DON AND DOFF INSTRUCTIONS

§          With the knee in extended position, place the brace around the knee with the patella (knee cap) cut out around the knee.

§          Bring the elastic strap over the patella and tighten.  The strap above the knee cap and below should be snug to prevent migration.

§          Tighten the top and bottom straps.

CARE

As this is usually a short tem condition and usually worn 24/7, the orthosis should not be removed for cleaning
