The hip orthosis is designed to immobilize the hip joint or the lumbar spine area. Specific measurements and a cast of the patient is taken and used as a mold in fabricating the brace.
The design of the orthosis depends on the condition of the patient. Several varieties of materials are used in creating the brace such as polyethylene, copolymer, polypropylene or surlyn. The choice is up to the orthotist to make considering your unique circumstances.
The static hip orthosis is used predominantly in those situations that indicate complete immobilization of the hip joint and/or lumbar spine.
