Ginny Flowers

Deann Marasco

Wow, so I start my blogging, there has to be a first for everything in life - right?  I am glad to have this place to share my daily journeys.

Recently I asked a few friends this questions - If this was your last day here, have you left a footprint?  What do I mean by a footprint - well, have you left a mark, have you accomplished  your goals and dreams and reached someone...touched someone.

Today I was at a party for twin 6 year olds, it was beautiful out, they had a clown doing activities outside and while I was watching all the kids running around I noticed about 20 feet in front of me these little flowers, really they are weeds, but when you look at them up close, they look like tiny irises. It made me think of Ginny.  Ginny was a woman I took care of during college, she was elderly and also had Multiple Sclerosis and lived in constant pain.  She rarely left her apartment, only when I took her for walks, so alot of the time I brought the outside into Ginny.  I would bring Hibiscus flowers that bloomed on her patio, but my favorite flowers to bring her were these tiny weed flowers.  When you picked about 20 of them they made a nice little bouquet and they smelled so sweet and were so pretty.  I would put them in a cup by her bed.  I use to call them "Ginny flowers"...so, today when I saw them blooming I wanted to go pick the Ginny flowers so bad, but I just smiled and it made me think about how much Ginny had made a huge impression in my life.

She helped me realize it was the small things, the hug, the special treats I would bring her, the times we would just talk and she would actually help me study for Business Law or I would just hug her and wish to take away just some of her pain.  It was in those last two years of her life, she made a huge impression on me, but I too gave back to her just as much.

Its the simple things in life that can make a footprint...back then, it was the Ginny flowers.
