When to Call the Prosthetist 

If one of these problems arises, the prosthetist should immediately be made aware:

• There is an open wound on the residual limb
• The amputee has fallen
• The prosthesis seems to be malfunctioning, or a component seems broken
• The amputee is experiencing severe and/or unusual discomfort when wearing the prosthesis
• The amputee is unable to put on or take off the prosthesis

For any medical emergencies, an amputee should call 911 for emergency response.
