It may be tempting to assume that because Mr. Smith was covered by straight Medicare primary on January 29, 2009, that nothing would change by the time February rolled around. Making this assumption as a prosthetic provider is a great way to get burned. It's common these days for beneficiaries to bounce between straight Medicare and different health care management programs, called HMO programs. Sometimes the beneficiary isn't sure which plan is effective. It's a good idea to check benefits frequently, and to keep beneficiaries updated on any potential problems on the horizon.
