Higher Maintenance Components

Staff Writer

Some prosthetic components require a little more maintenance than others.  For example, a microprocessor knee like the C-Leg must be plugged in frequently for charging and requires yearly servicing.  Otto Bock Healthcare's VASS suspension system must be cleaned frequently, so that the vacuum tubing does doesn't get clogged.  Some may wonder if it's worth the extra effort.

If a prosthetic user loves the function of a higher-maintenance component, there is no question that a little grunt work is worth it.  The few extra minutes that it takes to maintain a prosthetic component like this is nothing compared to the hours of resulting comfort.

Helpful Hint:  If you find yourself forgetting to plug in your C-Leg knee unit, invest in a car charger!
